EMPOWERING AGRICULTURE THROUGH RAIN WATER CONSERVATION
ABOUT US
In order to tackle the impending scarcity of water in rain fed / barani areas, i.e Khirthar Hills & Thar Desert, the Irrigation Department, Government of Sindh, was established the Small Dams Region Sindh, Hyderabad during the year 2006-07 for the construction of Small Dams on untapped potential sites.
The Small Dams Region Sindh, Hyderabad, has completed so far 113 Small Dams. Whereas, 18 Nos. Small Dams and 09 No. Tarries are also On-going under PSDP & various ADP schemes.
The Small Dams Region Sindh Hyderabad is functioning since 2007, under the Irrigation Department Government of Sindh. The Small Dam Region comprising on 01 No. Chief Engineer(BS-20) 01 No. Superintending Engineer (BS-19) 03 Nos. Executive Engineer (BS-18) 06 Nos. Assistant Executive Engineer (BS-17), these post are working as administrative unit. The main function of this administrative unit is to construct Small Dams / Weirs in hilly areas of Sindh Province to store / harvest rain water, which goes in rein due to having no storage facility exist.
Mission
The Small Dams Region Mission is to Construct Small Dams on potential sites in upper, central and lower Kohistan as
well as in Thar region for conservation of Precious rain water and its effective subsequent utilization.
Vision
The Small Dams Administration have broad and long-term vision to mitigate the menace of poverty and provide adequate water to the marginalized people of non-barrages areas of Sindh province as well as to recharge depleted sub-soil water level.
Objectives
- To conserve precious rainwater.
- To recharge depleted sub-soil water level.
- To improve the socio-economic fabric of local people.
- women’s emancipation.
- To provide water for domestic and agricultural purpose.

Water Reservoir Capacity = 0.0127 (MAF)
Total Area to be Benefited = 125,875 (Acres)
Population to be Benefited = 114,070 (Nos)
Livestock to be Benefited = 93,719 (Nos)

The Small Dams Region Irrigation Department Government of Sindh, is performing various functions. Details are as under.

The competent authority has been placed to approve the following policy for approval of irrigation cases in the commands of all the three barrages in Sindh.
- Sanction of new outlets.
- Sanction of supplementary/temporary pipes.
- Transfer of area from one barrage command to other barrage command.
- Conversation of dry area into paddy.
- Sanction of garden water.
- Sanction of water for D class land.
Under Sindh Government Rules of Business 1986 Following are Mandates Given to Irrigation Department (Excluding Power/Energy Rules)
- Sanction of new outlets.
